Oriol Romeu has been a big positive in a season that has largely failed to ignite for Southampton.
Some Sains fans may feel underwhelmed somewhat by this campaign - after being knocked out at the Europa League group stages and drifting into mid table obscurity domestically
However, according to Marca, the performances of their man in the middle have not gone unnoticed, as the Catalan giants Barcelona are reportedly planning to bring Romeu back to the club where he began his career.
Romeu made his Barcelona debut in August 2010 where he played the full 90 minutes in the Spanish Super Cup against Sevilla.
Romeu only made one further appearance for Barca that season before moving to West London and signing for Chelsea in August 2011.
The Spaniard enjoyed his first season at Stamford Bridge playing 24 times in all competitions and was part of the Chelsea squad that finally won the Champions League in May 2012 under the stewardship of Roberto Di Matteo.
However his next season was curtailed earlier by a knee injury and Romeu failed to win his way back into the Blues' squad, spending the next two seasons on loan at Valencia [below] and Stuttgart.
In August 2015, Romeu was given a fresh start at Southampton signing a three year deal for then manager of the Saints Ronald Koeman.
Despite Koeman leaving last summer Romeu quickly won favour with current manager Cluade Puel and has only missed one league game all season under the Frenchman.
His performances have been so impressive that the Spaniard managed to see off Dutch team-mate Virgil Van Dijk to win the Saints' Player of the Year award earlier this week.
Barcelona are looking for a long term replacement for central midfielder Sergio Busquets who turns 29 in July and have identified 25-year-old Romeu as their top choice.
Despite the appeal of returning home to Catalonia may have, Romeu signed a bumper four and half year deal with the Saints in January, so the South Coast side will be asking for a substantial fee for any potential transfer advances.
