Luis Suarez's 2014 could have ended better. The Uruguayan was on the cusp of firing Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title and was in the absolute form of his life under the messiah that was Brendan Rodgers.

The infamous season ended in capitulation at the hands of Crystal Palace, when the Reds blew a 3-0 lead that saw Suarez trying to escape a TV cameraman in tears straight after the final whistle, with the help of Steven Gerrard.

Fast forward a couple of months, and Suarez's year went from bad to worse when he, for reasons still unknown, bit Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, and received a nine-match international ban and a four-month ban from all football-related activity.

It was certainly a low point for Suarez, who must have been kicking himself for his silly actions, but his stupidity was not enough to put Spanish giants Barcelona off trying to sign him.

Speaking to El Periodico, as quoted by the ​Mirror, he said: "Pere Guardiola [Suarez's agent] called to say I should take it easy, and that Barca still wanted me. Zubi [Andoni Zubizarreta] also called.

"I remember that after I spoke to Andoni I could not stop crying because I could not believe they still wanted me. Barca were a great motivation to bounce back.

"Sometimes I look back at the videos and photos of those days when I was locked in a tiny gym with Juanjo [Brau], looking for place to go running away from the press.

Suarez sealed his move to the Nou Camp shortly after the conclusion of the World Cup, and was forced to wait to make his debut for the club after the fourth-month suspension remained in placed despite his transfer.
